Vera prowadziła burzliwe życie w Mińsku – stolicy Białorusi. Przed uzależnieniem uratowała ją decyzja o wstąpieniu do klasztoru. Cisza, las, dyscyplina klasztorna i opieka nad setką pacjentów ośrodka dla uzależnionych od alkoholu i narkotyków – tak spędziła 20 lat. W twarzach pacjentów widzi to, od czego uciekła. Vera była również jedną z bohaterek cyklu zdjęć „Ex-Voto”, za który współreżyserka filmu Alys Tomlinson otrzymała w 2018 roku nagrodę Sony Photographer of the Year.
”Mother Vera” is the story of a young nun; her turbulent past, and fragile future. At the monastery farm, people live in rehabilitation. They are a mirror to Vera’s old life. Faced with a hard decision, Vera must confront her past to find the freedom.
